Webb6 dec. 2024 · The axle tubes on the 1500 (8.5" ring gear) is smallest. The light-duty 2500 9.5" ring gear axle tube are bigger, need a larger spacing on the U-bolts, and the formed-steel mounting plate at the bottom that the nuts tighten against has wider-spaced holes.

I bought some 3" blocks and looking for some longer u bolts but all I can find is 1/2x2-1/2x10. Is the 1/2" diameter gonna be ok?
Webb13 feb. 2010 · That's a whole different ballgame though, as ring gear bolts don't torque to the same levels as u-bolts and they are loaded in shear as opposed to the random loading of u-bolts (especially in an offroad rig). I can't think of a time where I've had the chance to re-use u-bolts?
